Japan bans exports of quantum computers & other advanced technologies to Russia
(JapanTimes) Japan’s central government has announced that it will ban exports of quantum computers and other advanced technologies to Russia as additional sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine. IQT-News shares the news brief below.
Japan will put the ban in place May 20 to prevent the items from being diverted for military use, in line with an agreement with its Group of Seven partners to prohibit shipments of cutting-edge products to Russia.
Subject to the ban will be 14 items including quantum computers, machine tools, 3D printers and eight related technologies. Exports of machine tools with higher performance have already been blocked.
Currently, Japan prohibits exports to Russia of luxury items in 19 categories, including vehicles and watches, as well as a total of about 300 goods and technologies, such as semiconductors.
