(IQT-The Hague) Constantin Häfner, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Fraunhofer has agreed to speak Panel 2: Fiber and Photonics.
Prof. Constantin Haefner is Managing Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology and Full Professor for Laser Technology at the renowned RWTH Aachen University. With over 600 employees and more than 19,500 m² of floor space, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is one of the world’s premier laser technology centers. Core competencies include the development and technology transfer of state-of-the-art laser beam sources and their applications in various markets such as industrial production, aerospace, energy, e-mobility, environmental technology, medicine and life sciences, as well as development of photonic solutions for emerging markets such as quantum technologies. Before returning from California to Germany in 2019, Haefner was Director for Advanced Photon Technologies at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Prior at LLNL, he led the development and delivery of the world’s most powerful petawatt peak-power laser system (HAPLS) and, as chief scientist, oversaw the development and construction of the world’s most energetic petawatt laser system, ARC. Haefner has received several awards, including Fellow of the Optical Society of America for “Pioneering the Next Generation of High Average Power Petawatt Laser Systems,” the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Tech Transfer Award for Outstanding Commercialization Success, and the R&D100 Innovation Award. He graduated in physics from University of Konstanz in 1999 and received his PhD from the University of Heidelberg in 2003.
