At the IQT Vancouver/Pacific Rim Conference, an event dedicated to the confluence of quantum technologies and industry growth, Dennis Green, the Principal of South Arm Training and Development Ltd., will bring his extensive experience in workforce development to the forefront. Since founding the company in October 2019, after a distinguished 30-year career in the tourism and hospitality industry, including strategic roles at go2HR, BC’s tourism HR association, Green has honed his expertise in competency framework development, skill recognition, training, and certification strategies.
Green’s work is driven by a deep passion for exploring the nexus between work, technology, and education. His efforts have contributed significantly to competency development, notably co-authoring the Open Competency Toolkit with Carolyn Levy. This toolkit, a pioneering Open Educational Resource in Canada, offers a comprehensive guide for creating robust competency frameworks, underscoring Green’s commitment to enhancing professional development across various sectors.
His role in the IEEE Working Group P1484.20.2 – Recommended Practices for Defining Competencies further illustrates his influence on international standards for competency development, bringing together over 50 experts in the field. Through his leadership and editorial acumen, the group has made strides in setting benchmarks for defining competencies essential for the evolving needs of modern workforces.
Since November 2023, South Arm Training and Development have collaborated with the Quantum Algorithms Institute to identify the requisite skills and training for the burgeoning quantum workforce in BC and Canada. This initiative includes creating role profiles and a professional development toolkit for the institute, marking a significant step toward establishing a well-defined career path in the quantum industry.
The IQT Vancouver/Pacific Rim conference attendees can expect Green to showcase the work happening at South Arm Training and Development, showing how quantum technologies can enhance professional workforces across disciplines.
