Dario Gil, Chief Operating Officer at IBM Research, explains in this video how quantum computers work and what their application could mean for the future of different sectors. Gil predicts, “In 20 years, QC will be so fundamental and important it will impact almost every aspect of the service economy.”
Gil begins by describing the three fundamental characteristics of supercomputers: 1) superpostion; 2) entanglement; 3) interference.
Importantly, Gil then forecasts the uses of quantum computing.
–Simulating nature: Design and make new materials such as a better fertilizer.
–Mathematics: This has implications for security, search of databases, and optimization applied to financial services.
–Machine learning: Enhanced neural networks to be able to encode information.
