IBM to Install a Quantum Computer in Japan
(WRAL.TechWire) IBM is expanding its quantum computing progam to Japan and will be working with companies such as Toyota, Sony and other tech firms, according to a report in the Nikkei news service.
The quantum unit will be the second outside of the U.S. when it goes online in July, Nikkei reported Tuesday.
IBM recently agreed to build a quantum machine in Germany.
Researchers at N.C. State also have access to IBM’s quantum program.
The Japanese firms are “searching for new ways to apply the next-generation computer to industrial purposes, ” Nikkei said. “One possibility is to utilize the system to develop new materials.”
The machine will be installed at the Kawasaki Business Incubation Center near Tokyo.
