(CIO-Review) Jonathan P. Dowling, Chair for Theoretical Physics, Louisiana State University and his brother Michael J. Dowling, Chair Professor for Innovation and Technology Management, University of Regensburg discuss the “nightmare” scenario of quantum computing in this article.
The first point the Dowlings make in the CIO-Review article is that CIOS need to realize that there is no one simple fix for quantum computing security. The technology is in flux and the possible solutions as well. They believe the permanent fix is to make the switch from public-key encryption to private key encryption where the keys are distributed using quantum states of light or quantum key distribution (QKD).
NOTE: Jonathan P. Dowling will lead IQT’s FREE webinar online in the webinar on Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (EDT). In two back-to-back live sessions, Dr. Dowling will examine the quantum computing strategies of big names in computing and electronics including IBM, Microsoft, and Honeywell, and pure play firms including Rigetti and D-Wave. We’ll cover the development of chip technology at the core of quantum computers, the delivery of quantum computing power to the end user—clouds or in-house machines, and application and industry sector pioneers who are using quantum computing.
