Quantum computing’s commercial future will depend heavily on how the software evolves. Inside Quantum Technology foresees clever efforts to use open source languages to provide a low-cost and user-friendly approach to quantum computing. Perhaps start-ups will be based around these languages based on the huge current interest among both business users and researchers in trialing quantum computing. IBM’s long-established quantum computing services are built around the same idea.
In the end, however, existing languages will not do the trick for advanced users and new languages will be needed for quantum computing users who want to best take advantage of the subtleties offered by quantum computing. Microsoft’s offering here is Q#. For what Inside Quantum Technology has to say about quantum computing software, see https://www.insidequantumtechnology.com/report/c10/
