(TeleComPaper) State-owned Russian Railways will develop quantum communications under the framework of an agreement with the federal government. The way that the quantum technology will be used on the infrastructure of Russian Railways has not been specified.
Russian Railways owns a fibre-optic of more than 70,000 kilometres.
The national government has signed agreements to develop quantum technologies withe state-owned corporations Rostec and Rosatom, too. Rostelecom, in cooperation with the company InfoTex, tested a prototype of the ViPNet Quandor product on the telecommunications network of the operator in June. The data transmission using quantum encryption and was tested on a 58 km fibre line connecting its M10 data centre in Moscow with a laboratory in the Skolkovo technology park.
