Taiwan Subsidizing Quantum Tech Research: Funds Projects with TSMC & IBM
(DigiTimes) Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is promoting the development of quantum computer technologies by subsidizing research by academics with assistance from industrial sectors. TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, is the only private company involved in freshly-approved projects.
An additional contract with IBM, leveraging its Q-cloud quantum computing platform, may be instrumental in the upcoming projects which will be aimed at the development of quantum components and physics, quantum algorithms, quantum computers, and quantum communication. The government has stipulated that projects gaining the funding are not for commercial, but for academic purposes.
